Rio's Delicacies, Street Food & Smoothies


Walking around the streets of Rio can make a person hungry but do not fret you can find delicious food on every corner. Along the beaches you will find food carts selling everything from chilled coconuts to Acai bowls. If you wonder what they are poring from the big metal barrels, it is most likely Matte Leao. Matte Leao is very popular sweet black tea. You will also see food carts selling grilled cheese, not sandwiches, but chunks of grill cheese known as Queijo Coalho. As you wander away from the beach it is hard not to notice the many open air, colorful fruit stands loaded with every fruit known to man kind. These fruit stands are referred to as Sucos, of smoothie and juices shops a kin to Jamba Juice here in the states. These Sucos traditionally also sell little savory pastries filled with various meats and cheeses. The pastries are referred to as salgados.
