Cuzco, Peru Travelogue

The city of Cusco in Peru is a a world heritage site, known to be the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire.

Now Cuzco is the gate way to an Inca City of Machu Picchu.   There are still old ruins and things to see in Cusco. The airport is 11,200 feet above sea level. We decided to stay in a lower elevation hotel to help us get use to the elevation. We stayed at a hotel called Libertador Tambo del Inca located in the Sacred Valley. We stopped at a few sites to take pictures along the way.

Cusco is a busy place very colorful and has a main Square in the middle of the city where people hang out to watch the goings on. Tourists taking pictures, locals selling their wears. Was a military band playing music. Lots of shops and restaurants. This city is very old and it has a lot of historic places to visit. Well worth the time, but remember that you are at 11,000 ft above sea level and to go real slow we were all feeling the effects of being that high, shortness of breath always looking for a place to sit down its hard to describe but you feel like you have just been on a long hike  uphill .

If going to Cuzco and are over 40 years old ask your doctor about meds that you can take. We all took dyamox I think that's how you spell it.

Seemed to work but still felt tired and short of breath. We seemed to recover a bit quicker than last time we were here 5 years ago. A lot of the local people wear very colorful clothes I think it is what helps make the city so festive.

Gota run love to all Linda Barber, CTC
