Salvador de Bahia, Brazil - Afro- Brazilian Culture

Salvador de Bahia is the oldest city in Brazil. It is known for its rich Afro-Brazilian culture. The city is filled with numerous baroque style  colonial churches and architecturally interesting buildings.

On the Cidade Alta and near Pelourinho Square you will find brightly colored houses, cobbled streets, vibrant markets, colonial churches and museums.

Barra district is an upscale neighborhood along the coast and is home to the yacht clubas well as the fortress of San Antonio.  The Praça Municipal is Bahia's historic center with colonial architecture including a Jesuit Seminary, the Church of São Francisco as well as an old plaza where slaves where once sold.
